This year’s flood of news around the climate summit underway in Egypt has began, and we’ll get straight to highlighting some key points emerging from reports around the negotiations.

But, a pinch of salt: UN climate summits tend to hog a spotlight that’s disproportionate to what they deliver in terms of progress. They may produce the occasional breakthrough, as they did in Paris seven years ago now. But what they do more reliably is chart a direction of travel—or lack thereof.
